Geographic maps of Antarctica belonging to the period from the Middle Ages to the present, as well as the book released by Bulgarian Antarctic Institute involving geographic maps of Antarctica with descriptions were exhibited.

“Georgian visitors will view geographic maps created in a period from the 15th century to the present. We plan to cooperate with the Ministry of Education of Georgia in the future as well in frames of which Georgian scientists will participate in Antarctic expeditions,” Bulgarian Ambassador to Georgia, Desislava Ivanova said.

Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze spoke about the exhibition and bilateral cooperation. He noted that “Bulgaria has an intensive program on studying Antarctica. It is important that Bulgarian and Georgian colleagues met each other today and outlined interesting plans of future collaboration. What is most important, we have agreed that Georgian scientists will join Bulgarian expedition.”

The oldest map exhibited at TSU was created by the Turkish cartographer and mariner in the 15th century, even before Antarctica was discovered.
