TSU at International Education Fair

Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) is participating in the International Education Fair at Expo Georgia exhibition center. Rector of TSU, Giorgi Sharvashidze, Deputy Ministers of Education and Science, Ketevan Natriashvili, Lia Gigauri and Alexander Tevzadze, faculty deans, professors and students attended the opening event.

Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze said that the Tbilisi State University offers a lot of interesting programs to entrants and the International Education Fair is a good opportunity for future students to receive necessary information. “We are 100-year-old young university, which is the leader in the Caucasus region. The Tbilisi State University offers entrants 250 academic and a lot of exchange programs. I hope that a lot of would-be students will enter our university and become part of our large family with 300 000 members,” Rector Sharvashidze said.  

“It is very important to provide information to our citizens about all available services and exchange programs. The International Education Fair, which is held for the 8th time, promotes sharing this information,” Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Ketevan Natriashvili said.

TSU is traditionally presented at the International Education Fair with a special stand, where the guests of the exhibition can receive information about TSU faculties, educational programs (BA, MA and PhD degree programs), as well as exchange programs.

Mariam Pertakhia, one of the would-be students, said that the Tbilisi State University is her first choice. “I am still thinking but I suppose that finally I will choose the Tbilisi State University, because it is the first university, which implements a lot of exchange programs, which offers high- level education and necessary environment for promoting studies,” Mariam Pertakhia said.

TSU is the only university in the Caucasus that belongs to the top 2% of the world’s best universities; N359 /The U.S. News & World Report – Best Global Universities Ranking/ (2017);  Times Higher Education World University Ranking – N801+ (2016); Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) by Academic Subjects - TSU Physics Department is ranked No. 151-200. (2017).  
 
Up to 22,000 students are undergoing their studies on 67 BA, 95 MA, 51 PhD and three one-step medical and vocational programs at TSU.

TSU is a leading research university in Georgia with over 200 research projects and about 500 publications in journals with a high impact factor.  
 
It offers 22 foreign language BA, MA and PhD programs; up to 22,000 students studying approximately 240 educational programs.

TSU has over 180 partner universities in 50 countries; over 500 international students.

Over 8 million books and 22 million inventions/patents are stored at TSU libraries; TSU professors and students have access to international online academic databases and resources.

They have access to modern learning spaces – 16 research institutes; up to 85 learning labs, including the FabLab, SMART|Lab, SMART|AtmoSim-Lab, and BloombergLab; Physics and Chemistry Labs modernized with support from San Diego State University; a Multimedia Center; an archeological excavation site at Grakliani Hill; and a fine arts studio, etc.

TSU is the most in-demand university in Georgia according to first choice preferences (the first priority for 7711 entrants in 2017).

The university has over 300,000 alumni. The TSU alumni are 92% of the members of the Government of Georgia (13 out of 14 ministers); 46% of members of Georgian Parliament (69 out of 150); 99% of judges; and approximately 50% of diplomats.

The first-ever national university in the Caucasus, which laid the foundation for a European-type higher school in Georgia, based on Georgian educational traditions, was opened on February 8, 1918 (old style January 26), the day of commemoration of King David the Builder.
