TSU Team Wins All-European Moot Court Competition
The Tbilisi State University team won the All-European International Humanitarian and Refugee Law Moot Court Competition. The final round, held on November 21-25, 2017, was hosted by the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). TSU team took part in this competition for the first time and it was also the first time that any team from TSU has won final round of an international moot court competition.
The team unites undergraduate and graduate students of international law specialization –Salome Shubladze, Revaz Tkemaladze and David Javakhishvili. Besides winning the competition in a team, Revaz Tkemaladze also won the Best Speaker of the Competition award.
In the course of the competition, the team pleaded before the competent jury at the preliminary rounds (four pleadings in total) and subsequently at the semi-final and final rounds (two pleadings in total). The competition topics covered actual issues of International Humanitarian Law, International Refugee Law and International Criminal Law, including: means and methods of warfare, status of “war refugees”, war crimes, competence of the International Criminal Court, etc.
The team was prepared by professors and PhD students of the International Law Institute of the TSU Faculty of Law, in particular by Prof. Dr. Ketevan Khutsishvili, whose name is connected to the introduction of Refugee Law as a separate discipline in TSU’s academic curricula, also teachers of the international humanitarian law – Dr. Natia Kalandarishvili and Dr. Saba Pipia and PhD student Onisime Tskhomelidze. Professor Levan Alexidze, Member of the Academy of Sciences, has been an initiator of the TSU team’s participation in the European Competition. Prof. Dr. Alexidze did make it also possible to have the team travel for the participation in international round of the Competition.
