International Conference “Making the Most of Georgia’s Association to Horizon 2020”
An international conference “Making the Most of Georgia’s Association to Horizon 2020” dedicated to the EU Research and Innovation Framework Programme was held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University on November 26. The conference was organized by the European Commission, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and the Tbilisi State University. Deputy Rector of TSU, Nino Gvenetadze; Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Nunu Mitskevich; Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, Carl Hartzell; representatives of the European Commission and Georgian researchers attended the conference.
The purpose of the conference is to assess the progress achieved by Georgia since joining Horizon 2020 in 2016.
“The representatives of the European Commission, our European partners from Brussels central office, representatives of Georgia’s accredited higher educational and research institutions are attending the event. The conference is interactive. Scientists will receive practical recommendations and discuss the opportunities to fully participate in European research together with European collaborators,” Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Nunu Mitskevich said.
The participants of the conference will be provided information and working sessions will be held, involving discussions on effective and increased participation in the competitions announced by Horizon 2020 and European Innovation Council.
Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, Carl Hartzell said that Georgia has more opportunities in the fields of scientific research and innovation. He expressed support to increasing number of exchange programs between Georgian and EU scientists, noting that it is very important to implement all plans regarding Georgia.
Silvia Bojinova of the European Commission said that the purpose of the conference is to popularize Horizon among Georgian researchers and scientists. She also noted that such events would encourage Georgian researchers to participate in Horizon and collaborate with international researchers.
To share practical recommendations and experience with the public, researchers winning the competitions of Horizon 2020 programme will be given the floor at one of conference sessions.
