TSU Delegation Visits Friedrich Schiller University Jena

Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, George Sharvashidze and Dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, Professor Tamar Gagoshidze visited Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany. The TSU delegation visited the city of Jena upon invitation of President of Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Prof. Dr. Walter Rosenthal. On the first day of the visit, the TSU delegation was hosted by Vice-President for Young Researchers and Diversity Management, Prof. Dr. Uwe Cantner at the Graduate Academy, where the guests were acquainted with the Academy structure and peculiarities of its work.

Tbilisi State University and Friedrich Schiller University Jena will expand scientific cooperation in the fields of history, biology, biological sciences, chemistry, Caucasus Studies and archaeology. This issue was discussed at the meeting of TSU Rector George Sharvashidze and Prof. Dr. Walter Rosenthal. The sides agreed to further expand exchange programs for both students and scientists.

During the visit, the sides also focused on the principle of financing German research centers and the importance of Georgian scientists’ participation in European scientific projects. Dr. Diana Forker, Caucasian studies at the University of Jena, also attended the meeting.

As part of the visit, the TSU delegation also met with Ambassador of Georgia to Germany, Elguja Khokrishvili and General Consul Ioseb Chkhikvishvili. The issues of Georgian-German academic relations and future cooperation prospects were discussed. The participants of the meeting also discussed the issues of collaboration between TSU and German universities and supporting the Departments of Kartvelian Studies there.
